Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist at NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has a BA degree in English from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career in the field of radio and television reporter for Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. In 1976 she became a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). Then, she became a Washington general correspondent to NBC News two years later. The year 1980 marked the beginning of her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the principal journalist for Congress. Mitchell was promoted to the chief White House correspondent in 1992. As well as the Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell appeared as both an anchor and a panelist on the TV news program Meet the Press. Mitchell was a panelist in 1988's presidential debates which pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan a former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005, which was awarded by the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg the award in 2004 for her role in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's very first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. This period included the two Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell reported on a variety of notable stories, including the Iran-Contra scandal as well as the tax reforms to the budget and arms control. Mitchell traveled with President Ronald Reagan several times for summits, and to discuss topics such as the Iran Contra scandal.
